A fourth generation Portuguese descendant raised on Maui, Ron is deeply aware of the intricacies of the island’s real estate market and works tirelessly on clients’ behalf to negotiate successful transactions. Ron’s rare and intimate knowledge of the island — paired with decades of experience — means clients can rely on his extensive network of contacts, ranging from developers to property surveyors to land-use attorneys. His 23 years as a Realtor and 18 years as Broker-in-Charge are a testament to his passion: redefining the real estate experience for his clients and inspiring the industry as a whole to push boundaries, innovate and differentiate.
“The three aspects of the real estate business I really love are the people, the technology, and the island of Maui,” says Ron. “A significant part of my business comes from word-of-mouth recommendation and client referral, and I attribute that to genuinely caring about what I do and nurturing the long-term relationships I have developed.”
Ron relishes challenges and takes pride in resolving any obstacles that may arise during transactions. Even after a sale is finalized, he continues to advocate for his clients’ interests. Colleagues and clients describe Ron as a problem solver and industry leader, known for his effective communication skills, devotion to clients and focus on attention to detail. “I offer a unique breadth and depth of knowledge, background and experience,” says Ron, “but if there’s something new or unique that I can’t provide an answer to, I won’t pretend or guess. I’ll assure I can find the right resource that can supply the information or offer a practical and acceptable solution.”
One of Ron’s passions is traveling with his wife, Jean. Portugal holds a special place in their hearts – they consider it their second home. Ron’s descendants migrated to Hawaii from Madeira and the Azores, like many of their contemporaries, to work on Hawaii’s sugar plantations. His great-grandfather arrived with all of $4 in his pocket as he started a new life here in Hawaii. With Ron’s own children and grandchildren, there are now six generations of his family with Hawaii roots. Another of his passions is food and cooking – he is a professionally trained chef, and his travels allow him the opportunity to explore new markets, ingredients, and techniques that he can bring back home to his family kitchen.
In true Hawaiian fashion, Ron is acutely aware of his duty to ensure that his choices and work ethic give credit not just to his immediate family (ohana), but also his community, and Maui at large.
