Joe Deckman and his wife Kay have been full-time residents of Highlands for 15 years. They are members of Highlands Falls Country Club and they enjoy bridge, golf, photography, reading, and artwork. Prior to coming to Highlands, Kay was a Psychology major at the University of Louisville, a real estate agent specializing in income-producing multiplex units and commercial properties, a Registered Nurse, and the mother of 4 sons, 1 daughter, and 2 grandchildren. They have lived in Akron, Cleveland, Detroit, Wausau, Minneapolis, Destin, Long Island, and Manhattan.
Active as Brokers in the Highlands, NC real estate market since 2009. Joe held a real estate agent license in Maryland in the late 1970s and did commercial real estate appraisals. Joe Deckman obtained his first real estate license in Maryland when he was building homes and developing residential subdivisions in the DC metro area. He also did commercial real estate appraisal work for clients involved in tax court cases.
For much of Joe’s career, he served in leadership roles overseeing large contracting and building products companies in the US and in international operations. Two noteworthy projects completed when Joe was President of Harmon Ltd. were the Petronas Twin towers in Malaysia (the world’s tallest building at the time) and the Getty Museum in LA. Harmon Ltd designed and installed the curtain wall (exterior building skin) for these projects.
The Deckmans moved to Highlands in 2005. Joe and his wife, Kay, obtained their NC Brokers licenses in 2009 and have been active in the Highlands-Cashiers real estate market since then. Joe has served on the Highlands-Cashiers Board of Realtors as Treasurer and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Highlands Falls Community Association. He also has served on the Board of Directors of the Performing Arts Center in Highlands. Joe and Kay live in Highlands and are members of Highlands Falls CC and Mountain Laurel Tennis Club.
Joe’s knowledge of building and his attention to detail are important traits he uses to help his clients find comfortable homes and solid investments. He is a dedicated professional who enjoys people and is enthused to be in the mountains assisting prospects in their journey to find the right mountain sanctuary.
