Alec was born in Charleston, South Carolina, and raised just east of Asheville in Black Mountain. Alec, his wife Kara, and their daughter Emilia reside in east Asheville. He has called western North Carolina home for nearly 30 years.

An avid sportsman, Alec is a golf enthusiast and enjoys snowboarding in the winter months.
