On any given weekend, you might find Susan Ives in one of two places: boating on the pristine waters around Sanibel and Captiva islands - waters where she knows the inlets, tides, and traffic patterns (not to mention the best places to dock for a mahi-mahi sandwich or a cold cocktail) - or strolling the area's sugar-soft beaches, searching for sand dollars and soaking up the abundant sunshine.
Susan's family moved to this area when she was just six years old, and it's fair to say she's been in love with the peaceful spirit and extraordinary natural beauty of the region ever since.
A graduate of Florida Gulf Coast University, Susan was an educator in the Lee County school system and a three-time Golden Apple Teacher Recognition Program finalist - the district's highest award for excellence. As a specialist in teaching children with profound health problems, Susan has been inspired by her students to live each day to the fullest. It's the reason she and her husband, Nathan, embrace their passion for boating, the reason she's become an avid snorkeler and lobster diver, and the reason she's become an avid worldwide traveler.
