As a Bethesda native, former political appointee, and attorney, Laura is well acquainted with the nuances of the DMV (District, Maryland, and Virginia) and its distinctive real estate market. Laura has had the pleasure of helping clients (friends, family, and neighbors) buy and sell homes for over 16 years. Laura joined the Emmett Homes Team in 2009 and moved to TTR Sotheby's International Realty in 2025.
Laura has had great success in the real estate market, selling more than $76,000,000 in real estate in the last six years. Laura works with sellers to effectively market and sell their homes and buyers to identify and purchase their dream homes. Following graduation from the Sidwell Friends School and the University of Michigan, Laura worked in financial public relations in Chicago before returning to Washington to pursue a career in public policy. Laura joined President Bill Clinton's administration as a policy assistant for the Domestic Policy Council before attending Georgetown University Law School. Laura also worked for the U.S. Department of Education during her first two years of law school. Following her graduation from Georgetown Law, Laura joined the Washington DC law firm of Dow Lohnes and practiced employment law for seven years.
In 2009, Laura joined her mother, the late Anne Emmett, a grande dame of real estate, selling real estate in Maryland, DC, and Virginia. Laura credits her negotiating skills to years working in policy and contract preparation and presentation skills to her legal background. Laura lives in the Bethesda Sumner neighborhood with her husband Francis O’Connor, daughter Lilly, son Patrick, and Dylan the dog. She actively volunteers for the Wood Acres Elementary School PTA and the American Cancer Society as well as fundraises for many other charitable organizations.
