'...in the narrow and steep Rua do Ferraz, we come across the Casa dos Sousas e Silvas, which is actually two two-storey houses, with a granite coat of arms of the Sousas (from Arronches) and Silvas on the wall of the first floor, dating from 1703. In the 16th century, it belonged to Gaspar Ferraz, a noble knight of the house of the Duke of Braganca and provider of the Misericordia, and his son, Afonso Ferraz, chanter of the Cathedral of Porto. The name Rua do Ferraz is due to them. The Casa dos Sousas e Silvas was recently renovated but, unlike most of the restored buildings on this street, it did not give rise to a hotel, but to thirteen dwellings.'
