Maureen and her husband, Nick Brixius, a professor in the College of Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, landed in Daytona Beach in 1996 at the end of an experience of a lifetime: a 9,000-mile ocean voyage aboard their 38-foot Beneteau sailboat Amitie'.
