About the location:
Barra Honda Town: The town of Barra Honda is a typical small town of Guanacaste Province. It is a town surrounded by cattle farms, wooded slopes and located on the slopes of Barra Honda Mountain, which is part of Barra Honda National Park. It is a town that offers few services, most of which can be found in other nearby towns and in the City of Nicoya, 20 km away on a fully paved road. Barra Honda is characterized by being a very quiet town, with its church, its school, its communal hall and its bull ring for the tico-style bull games and year-end festivities.

Barra Honda National Park: A popular destination for local and foreign tourists, the 2,300-hectare Barra Honda National Park constitutes the most important limestone cave system discovered so far in Costa Rica, with approximately 70 million years of age. The Barra Honda hill, about 300 meters high, is made up of ancient coral reefs that emerged due to an uplift caused by tectonic faults, about 60 million years ago. It is one of the many calcareous hills that are located in the province of Guanacaste, on both sides of the Tempisque River, and the only one in the area that has large caverns with large stalactites and stalagmites. In total, 19 caverns have been discovered, ranging from the shortest and smallest to the largest 240 meters in length.
