Jenesien, also known as San Genesio, is a small municipality in South Tyrol, located around 10 kilometers northeast of Bolzano. The municipality lies on a plateau at an altitude of around 1,100 meters and offers a breathtaking view of the surrounding mountains and valleys.
Jenesien is known above all for its beautiful nature and offers numerous hiking and cycling trails. The "Keschtnweg" trail, which leads through its chestnut forests in the fall and offers numerous opportunities to pick chestnuts, is particularly popular. Another highlight is the cable car that runs from Jenesien to Bolzano and offers breathtaking views of the town and the surrounding mountains.
The municipality of Jenesien also has a rich cultural history dating back to Roman times. There are numerous historical buildings and monuments that provide an insight into the history of the region. One of the most famous buildings is Sigmundskron Castle, which now houses a museum and regularly organizes exhibitions on various topics.
