HISTORY: A STORY WOVEN INTO TETOUAN’S PAST
Riad Vamos stands within the ancient Medina of Tetouan, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its Andalusian influence and historic artistry.
The property traces its origins to around 1800, serving as a distinguished private residence. A major renovation in 1945 reshaped the interior by removing courtyard columns and installing protective iron beams, creating a wide-open central space.
During this period, Sevillian decorative tiles—a gift from the Spanish government—were installed for the home’s owner, Grand Vizier Sidi Abdelkrim El Haddad, giving the riad its signature Andalusian-Moroccan identity.
Originally, the main building served as the vizier’s residence and official reception area, while the second building housed the private living quarters for his family. Though separate structures, they have long been connected—first through an internal passageway and now via the rooftop link.
Today, the riad’s restoration preserves its historic soul while providing modern comfort and full commercial functionality.
