This thin strip of land, which stretches along the sea and yet is protected from the bora, was a wealthy villa district in Roman times. But you don't have to wait for summer to see the seafront filled with people: It's enough that the climate is mild and the sun is shining!
In fact, "the beautiful season" here lasts from April to October. The Triest always has a deckchair in his car (or on his scooter), which he also likes to use during his lunch break! In the winter months, on the other hand, Barcola is the perfect place for wonderful long walks and watching beautiful sunsets.
Barcola has also lent its name to the popular Mediterranean regatta Barcolana, which has been held on the second Sunday in October since 1969 and is organized by the sailing association Società Velica di Barcola e Grignano.
