Location description
Mariano is a small fraction of the municipality of Parma, belonging to the Cittadella district, is located 3.5 km from the city center and rises in a flat position towards the south, on the right bank of the Parma stream.
The locality has been crossed since the reign of Theodoric the Great by the Comune canal, close to which various functioning activities developed over time thanks to its waters, including paper mills and mills. The name of the main road that crosses Mariano, Strada Bassa dei Folli, derives from the presence of numerous paper mills, where Folli stands for "sheets" from the Latin "follere". In the '60/'70 ies it becomes one of the most exclusive district. In more recent years there has been a further development with the construction of some single-family villas surrounded by gardens and tree-lined avenues.
It is a unique enclave because it is very close to the center and yet in the open countryside, immersed in the green and silent, with no roads nearby. The center is easily reachable in 15 minutes by bicycle, schools and supermarkets are in the immediate vicinity, even the entrance to the southern ring road is just a few minutes by car.
