Description
Old property located in a corner of the picturesque parish of Reguengo, 8 kilometers from the city of Portalegre, capital of Alto Alentejo. It was built by Joao da Fonseca Acciaioli Coutinho de Sousa Tavares, lord of the manor houses of Entre as Ribeiras and Cabaca, representative of this noble family and resident of the same city. Its completion was in the year 1783. It is considered one of the few manor houses south of the Tagus. Inside the palatial residence, there was no lack of stucco work full of reliefs, marble fountains serving as a washbasin, one of which represents the rock from which Moses made water flow. Consisting of 12 bedrooms and 13 bathrooms, a kitchen and pantry, several lounges and a library. On the outside, it contains a chapel dedicated to the cult of Nossa Senhora das Dores, three fountains and a lake (currently a swimming pool) in which it is possible to store 400 cubic meters of water.
This property was chosen in 1811 by the English general Sir Arthur Wellesley, later Lord Duke Wellington, for his residence during a period of operations against the French army. The various owners over several generations have made the Quinta one of the most beautiful manor houses with architectural and decorative beauty.
Today it presents itself as a modernized farmhouse with all the living conditions for permanent or weekend housing for a large family, or for tourist exploitation. One of the main features is the promenade that runs along the entire property, lined with fruit trees and shrubs.
