Location:
Almancil is a small village in the municipality of Loule that is located in the Algarve, in the south of Portugal. It is just 13 kilometres from Faro.
Although it is a small town it has historical details, buildings of a certain importance and offers a picturesque and pleasant environment.
The natural landscape of the parish cannot be overlooked - the western part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park, site of high botanical value and natural habitat of rare ornithological species, is located here. The coastal area, with about 12 km, where the famous beaches of Ancao, Quinta do lago, Garrao and Vale do Lobo are located, is also one of the attractions of this parish. Currently several internationally renowned tourist resorts are located here and some of its [golf] courses are considered among the best in the world.
With the valuable contribution of archeology, it is known today that the presence of man in the Municipality of Loule dates back to the Ancient Paleolithic. In the following millennia, in the metal age period, the incursion of the peoples of the Eastern Mediterranean intensified, which progressively penetrate the South-West Peninsular, culminating in the arrival of the Phoenicians and Carthaginians.
These founded the first works on the seafront of the territory of the current municipality, promoting fishing, prospecting for metallurgy and commercial activity.
In the 20th century, the growth of the city was based on a further improvement of communication routes and mining, which attracted more people to Loule, which resulted in an accelerated construction activity throughout the county.

Economy:
In the municipality of Loule, there are some of the most coveted places in the country. Vilamoura, one of the largest tourist complex in Europe, stands out.
It features a marina, a golf academy and five golf courses, a casino, several nightclubs, tennis club, diving club, other leisure facilities, an extensive beach, and dozens of 5 and 4 star hotels. Started in the 1960s, Vilamoura has an area of 1600 hectares.
