Description
The Quinta da Igreja Velha or S. Jose (both denominations are recognised) was an old 'Passal' that belonged to the Church for centuries. Its fertile lands served as a livelihood for the clerics who settled in the parish of S. Cipriano de Tabuadelo. The Church, in late Romanesque style, is classified as of public interest and is part of the Romanesque route as the oldest in the district of Braga. The first references to it appear in the tenth and eleventh centuries.
In the mid-eighteenth century, the Quinta was bought by the ancestors of the current owners, who already owned the neighbouring Quinta de Batoucos, with a manor house that served as a holiday residence and whose first records date back to the sixteenth century.
In the twentieth century, the inheritance was shared and the 2 properties became autonomous again. Today, Quinta da Igreja Velha is spread over several rustic and urban items. The former caretakers' house occupies 170 square meters. It surrounds a gigantic granite boulder and the basement is contiguous to the court of the animals and there a mill, forming a harmonious square.
The other urban article refers to a 2-storey granary with about 100 square meters and a threshing floor.
Another 12.5 hectares are fields, windrows and articles without designation. A tongue of land was given free of charge to the Parish Council for the construction of a road. 21,200 square meters were then separated with the promise, still unfulfilled, to de-allocate this area from the agricultural reserve regime for later urban use. Here there are already the necessary sewage structures.
Finally, two huge sorts of forest should be mentioned. On the hill of S. Bento, the mines supplied water to the existing tanks. The plumbing has since been stolen.
A superb view that allows you to contemplate Guimaraes (which is a 10-minute drive away), varied trails and a rare tranquillity make this set a space of enormous agro-tourist potential, enriched by a secular history and geographical advantages of excellence.
