Palmariggi is a delightful village a few km from the center of the famous Otranto. Its particular name is linked to the event after the capture of Otranto by the Turks. The inhabitants, in fact, invoked the protection of the Madonna who appeared holding a palm and with an army in tow. The Turks, frightened by the army, moved away and the population was saved. In memory of the event, the village changed its name to Palmariggi, which means "You who hold the palm", in honor of the Madonna.
