We cross Campo S. Polo, the largest campo in Venice and the largest public space after Piazza S. Marco, historically home to markets, fairs and public festivals with games and bull races, the latter immortalized in a famous seventeenth-century painting preserved to the Correr Museum, to head towards Calle Bernardo which takes its name from one of the most iconic Gothic buildings in the city. Here we cross the entrance door to find ourselves in an intimate internal courtyard with a water door and a fascinating covered helical staircase that leads to the upper floors. We slowly climb the comfortable stone steps, stopping every now and then to admire the landscape from the rhythmic windows arranged along our path. At the end of our climb a balcony allows us a privileged view of the bell tower of San Marco.
