The Villa "Il Casino del Genovese" - Reggio Emilia

There is only limited knowledge about the origins of the villa. It is assumed that a hunting and fishing lodge may have stood on the site of the large estate of the bishops of Reggio Emilia, who had their summer residence in Mamminatico, in earlier times. This can be seen from the construction of the building's walls, which, unlike other buildings, indicate the possible presence of a tower house with such functions.
After a considerable part of the bishops' agricultural property was sold, the estate became the property of the Counts of Tirelli. This family, originally based in the Sesso area, shifted their focus to silk production and trade, particularly to the east, which led to an increase in their wealth. The current structure of the villa dates back to the first half of the 19th century and is characterized by a horizontal structure with a smaller central part and a gabled roof, finished off by a small open central terrace.
During the last years of the Second World War, the estate belonged to the Fallini family of agricultural entrepreneurs. After the war, the entire estate was acquired by a Genoese company active in the wine trade. This is why the estate bears the name "Casino del Genovese" on more recent cadastral maps. In 1973, the villa was sold together with its outbuildings and the large park to the Di Lorenzo family of textile entrepreneurs from Carpi. Their fashion line "Loretta di Lorenzo", which was marketed under the designer's name, was particularly well-known. The rest of the estate was sold to various owners. Finally, the Ferretti Garsi family, the current owners, acquired the complex in 1990.
