Description
In the 18th century, Braga began a process of urban renewal that would change the face of the city and turn it into the ex-libris of the Baroque in Portugal. The Paço da Igreja in Algeriz, was built at the beginning of the century by the Castro family, owners of the Casa das Brolhas in Lamego. It is one of the first examples of Baroque architecture in Braga.Paço da Igreja is just 8 kilometres from the city centre of Braga, in the north of Portugal. Located in a Special Protection Area (SPA) and recognised as a Monument of Public Interest (MIP), this example of baroque architecture is a building of unquestionable historical and heritage value. Preserving the building means committing to the past, present and future, where restoring the original design is combined with modern requirements. If the property is to be used for tourist purposes, the strip of land in the National Agricultural Reserve (RAN) can exceptionally be deallocated to build a tourist resort.
