In one of the most prestigious areas of Milan, at the corner of Via Bellini and Via Livorno, overlooking the Church of the Passion, Casa Campanini is arguably the most important Liberty-style building in the city. The building is accessible via numerous surface transport options and the San Babila metro stop. Constructed between 1904 and 1906 by architect Alfredo Campanini to become his residence, the palace, along with Palazzo Castiglioni, represents one of the finest examples of Milanese Liberty style. Immediately striking are the concrete caryatids at the entrance, crafted by sculptor Michele Vedani; although they represent a clear homage to the caryatids originally placed at the entrance of Palazzo Castiglioni by Sommaruga, they are less austere and monumental. The wrought iron entrance gate, designed by Campanini himself and crafted by Mazzucotelli, features typical Liberty-style floral motifs; these motifs can also be found in the wrought ironwork inside the palace and in the elevator cage. Overall, compared to the more monumental Palazzo Castiglioni, the palace assumes less majestic forms, but ones more attentive to daily life. Upon entering the palace, one can notice the multitude of polychrome glass, friezes, and frescoes typical of the Liberty taste; original furnishings and ceramics are still preserved. Noteworthy is the ceiling of the courtyard portico, where the floral theme of Liberty is interpreted through designs of bundles of red cherries and the wrought iron chandelier. Moving away from the palace, one can observe the chimneys on the roof, resembling sand pinnacles. Inside Casa Campanini, there is an office of great representation. The office, approximately 550 square meters on two levels, consists on the raised ground floor of a spacious entrance, two offices, a large meeting room embellished by large original decorated windows overlooking the Church of the Passion. Completing the floor are a large archive room and a marble bathroom. The entrance and corridor are decorated with glass paneling in line with the style of Casa Campanini. The flooring is laid with continuous parquet. The ceiling is adorned with stuccoes. All offices on the basement floor, very spacious and daylight-lit from the large windows, are of equal prestige to those on the upper floor and enriched by a decorated terrazzo flooring with zodiac signs. The office has centralized heating and autonomous air conditioning ducted into the ceiling. The ceiling height is nearly 4 meters on the raised ground floor and exceeds 3 meters on the basement floor.
