Azoia is a town in the parish of Castelo, in the municipality of Sesimbra and in the district of Setubal. It is located very close to the Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Cabo Espichel, a sacred site that was recently recognised as a cultural heritage site.
Castelo, or Sesimbra (Castelo) in legal terms, is a Portuguese parish in the municipality of Sesimbra, with an area of 178.77 km2 and 20,212 inhabitants. Its population density is 113.1 inhabitants/km2.
Together with the parish of Santiago, it includes the town of Sesimbra. The largest part of the parish of Nossa Senhora da Consolacao do Castelo covers rural territory in a very wide area that stretches roughly from Cabo Espichel to Arneiro in the north; from there to Quinta do Conde in the east; from there to Azenha da Ordem; and finally, further south, to Fojo, in the foothills of the Serra da Arrabida.
