Description

IN AN AGE OF CHANGE, REDEFINING OUR LIFESTYLE IS ESSENTIAL. Established habits must be challenged and new values adopted. WHERE AND HOW TO LIVE? Umbria, the green heart of Italy, offers forests, valleys, mountains, rivers, lakes, and medieval villages such as Assisi, Perugia, Orvieto, and Spoleto. Renowned for its wines, truffles, and traditional cuisine, it has been called the "most livable city in the world" by Professor S. Levine of the University of Kentucky for its easy urban connections, unique microclimate, and quality of life. Founded by the Etruscans and colonized by the Romans, Todi has attracted artists and international figures for decades. Situated on a hill, it offers a tranquil atmosphere rich in history, with excellent restaurants, churches, the Duomo, the Church of the Consolation designed by Bramante, imposing palaces, and a delightful 19th-century theater. Home of the poet Jacopone da Todi, the city has always been a peaceful, industrious place steeped in age-old traditions. Antica Canonica, a medieval hamlet once a monastery of hermit monks, offers an intimate and evocative place to live and work. Located very close to the town center, it boasts unique history, nature, and incomparable landscapes. It can be used as a private residence for large families or as an exclusive accommodation facility for a luxury resort, with spacious interiors, farm buildings, and cottages. The vast 5-hectare farmland can be converted into a riding stable and recreation area. Surrounded by oak, chestnut, acacia, and fir trees, the hamlet offers a haven of peace and tranquility. The estate produces high-quality olive oil and cultivates wheat in an ancient vineyard. Strategically located, approximately 120 km from Rome, 190 km from Florence, and 48 km from Perugia, it facilitates the arrival of guests from abroad as well. The Borgo estate dominates the hillside, offering a unique view of Todi and the Tiber Valley. The earliest records of the monastery date back to 1100. In 1216, the ruins of a church became the property of the Camaldolese monks, whose philosophical principle was "PRIVILEGIUM AMORIS"—The Privilege of Love—centered on writing, solitude, prayer, and harmony with the land and the community. Construction of the monastery was completed in 1644 and remained in use until 1795, when the convents were suppressed. After 1860, the Camaldolese monks abandoned the hermitage due to plundering, including by Garibaldi's troops. In 1928, the complex was registered in the Todi yearbook and the municipal land registry. It still retains the original plans, the prior's house, the church with bell tower and dome, and six cottages (formerly cells) connected by paths made of original stones. The church features stucco and three chapels, one of which was decorated by Luigi Sabatini in 1890. In 1934, Ruth Brooks Palmer purchased the Tenuta del Borgo, transforming it into private property. In 1969, she sold it to Omar Ali Shah, a descendant of a Sufi lineage. In 1973, Piero Dorazio restored the monastery, living and working there until 2015.
