We find ourselves in front of Villa Gera, an imposing presence that rests on the Colle di Giano. Even from afar, its majestic profile welcomes us, drawing, together with the Castle, the skyline of Conegliano.
Going up, we notice the element that most captures the eye: the pronaos, adorned with eight slender columns, which stands out against the sky. It is there that we find a bas-relief by Marco Casagrande, a student of Canova, which depicts Architecture welcoming the sister Arts. As we get closer, we seem to perceive the echo of stories and meetings that these walls have hosted.
We enter at the garden level, through one of the two entrances. We find ourselves in a passage hall, once a place of transit for carriages, which opens onto lateral rooms. From here, a red stone pincer staircase invites us to climb. Every step we climb brings us closer to the beating heart of the villa.
On the main floor, the large sail-shaped hall opens up before us, a true triumph of frescoes. Scenes from the life of Julius Caesar, painted by Giovanni Antonio De Min, surround us: the victory over the Helvetians, the crossing of the Alps, the triumph in Rome and the Ides of March. The breath of time seems almost tangible in this environment. Around the hall, in a perfect symmetrical pattern, there are four living rooms, each with its own atmosphere. From here, or directly from the hall, we access the imposing pronaos, which faces south, offering a suggestive view of the city center.
Climbing further, we reach the second floor, where the spaces that were once intended for the private apartment are located. Higher up, the roof terrace offers us a breathtaking view. The view ranges freely, from the tiles of the city roofs to the soft profile of the UNESCO hills and the Castle.
Leaving, we notice the important agricultural building adjacent to the villa and the remains of the ancient burnt wing, of which only the external walls remain, a silent testimony to a past that has transformed. The park, of about 2 hectares, envelops us with its greenery. The Prosecco Docg vineyard, the orchard and the garden draw a harmonious landscape that borders the ancient Carrara walls of the castle. Here, a private access to the walkway above bears witness to the deep bond between the villa and the history of the city.
