Description
The Farrattini Palace in Amelia, constructed between 1520 and 1527 from a design by the renowned architect Antonio da Sangallo the Y ounger—who had already contributed to major projects such as the Farnese Palace in Rome—and spanning seven levels, stands as one of the most significant examples of Renaissance architecture in Umbria. Its rusticated travertine façade, monumental portal, kneeling windows with pediments, and strict compositional symmetry anticipate architectural models that would go on to influence noble residences throughout the 16th century. The interiors preserve highly valuable spaces such as the Sangallo
Hall, featuring coffered ceilings, 16th-century frescoes attributed to
Livio Agresti, and a monumental 17th-century fireplace. In the basement, remains of Roman baths with opus reticulatum structures and mosaics can be found, bearing witness to a historical
layering that spans over two thousand years.
