Description
Casa da Torre - A Refuge with History in Lanheses
In the heart of Lanheses, this charismatic farmhouse transports us back in time, combining rustic charm with a Mediterranean touch. Casa do Outeiro or Casa da Torre in Lanheses, Viana do Castelo, has its origins in a 17th century tower.
It was the scene of conspiratorial meetings between the noblemen of Alto Minho during the civil wars between the Liberals and the Miguelists in the 19th century.
Later, in the 20th century, it also became known as the 'Guard House', as it was used by the GNR between 1950 and 2006. It still has a cell which the current owners have restored.
The property is fully prepared and equipped to be used as a tourist accommodation. All the bed linen, bathroom fittings and crockery are new.
ENTRANCE/HALL 1ST FLOOR
Upon arrival, we are greeted by an entrance gate that leads to a cosy outdoor space, perfect for leisure time or picnics. The imposing stone stairs lead us to a stone marquee, where a small corner invites you to rest.
KITCHEN
Upon entering, we come across the rustic kitchen, which maintains original elements such as the traditional oven and the reclaimed stone sink. Although it preserves its charm from other times, it has been adapted for greater functionality, being equipped with a refrigerator, extractor fan, hob, oven, coffee maker, toaster, crockery and utensils. It also has a pantry/storage, which includes some items for everyday life. A door with an old recovered lock gives access to the garden, allowing a harmonious connection between the interior and exterior.
BATHROOM
Near the kitchen, we find a service bathroom full of character, where the shower has a skylight, letting natural light illuminate the space in a unique way.
SPACE AND READING/STAIRS
Next to the stairs, there is a reading space, perfect for moments of tranquillity.
DINING ROOM
The dining room maintains an emblematic niche of the original house, now restored, and the traditional flirtatious benches by the window, typical of old Portuguese houses.
2 BEDROOMS
The house has two rustic bedrooms, which transport us to the essence of traditional Portuguese houses.
HALL/LIVING ROOM GROUND FLOOR
Going down to the ground floor, we find a living room, which can also serve as an entrance hall.
BATHROOM/OLD CELL
One of the most emblematic bathrooms in the house is located here - formerly a prisoner's cell, now elegantly restored.
LIVING ROOM/OFFICE
The living room and communal office are flooded with natural light, with a serene view of the vineyards and garden. The fireplace, in addition to heating the environment, feeds the radiators of the entire house, making it comfortable in any season.
SUITE ROOM
On the ground floor, there is also a cosy bedroom suite, with additional storage space. The bathroom of this suite mixes elements of Portuguese style with Mediterranean touches.
EXTERIOR
Outside, there is a space dedicated to storing firewood, essential to feed the fireplace. The garden invites you to moments of conviviality, with a wooden table ideal for outdoor dining, whether with family or friends. At the back, a small forest with leafy trees creates a natural refuge, perfect for relaxing and enjoying contact with nature. A door gives access to stairs that connect directly to the kitchen, facilitating circulation in the house.
LOCATION
The location is one of the strengths of this property. The house is in a quiet and familiar area, with pharmacy, bakeries and other essential services just a 5-minute walk away. By car, it is 45 minutes from Francisco Sa Carneiro Airport (Porto), 12 minutes from Ponte de Lima, the oldest village in Portugal, known for its gastronomy and wines, and 20 minutes from Viana do Castelo, a coastal city with stunning beaches.
