Description
Main house 19th-century estate in Ferreira do Zezere
In the heart of the municipality of Ferreira do Zezere, in the peaceful area of Alqueidao, stands a singular property. More than a house, this 19th-century estate in Ferreira do Zezere is a living testimony to the History of Portugal: the birthplace of the Sa da Bandeira family, one of the most distinguished lineages of the 19th century.
It is here, in the former parish of Pias, that the architecture of a manor house recalls a glorious past. It was in this private chapel, integrated into the property, that on 16 September 1792, Capitao-mor Faustino Lopes Nogueira de Figueiredo e Silva and D. Francisca Xavier de Sa e Mendonca Cabral da Cunha Godolfim were married parents of Bernardo de Sa Nogueira, the 1st Marquis of Sa da Bandeira, a figure whom Alexandre Herculano described as 'the most illustrious Portuguese of his century'.
Set in a verdant rural landscape, this house offers the authentic charm of an old manor, featuring original architectural elements, a private chapel and a rare natural setting.
The main house, with its roof renovated 20 years ago, comprises 18 rooms distributed between family areas and former service quarters.
Main features:
Main house with adjoining ruins to restore
18 rooms, including: 6 main rooms, 2 bathrooms and 1 kitchen
Land with 82,640 sqm
Wine cellar with old barrels
Olive storage building and olive-oil presses
Water well and natural pond
Connection to water and electricity
Preserved original elements: ornaments, wooden doors and shutters, balustrades
A subterranean corridor links the garden to the street, revealing two additional rooms beneath the house a captivating detail that reinforces the uniqueness of the property.
A unique opportunity to restore and enhance a noble heritage in the heart of the Portuguese countryside.
Here, every stone tells a story. Every room holds echoes of generations. It is a place where the past can be felt and where the future can be built with identity and distinction.
