In Borghetto Lodigiano, between Lodi and Pavia, the historic villa Rho Confalonieri Belgiojoso, also known as Cascina Sant'Ambrogio or Co' di Sopra, is for sale.
The entire farmhouse, an agricultural complex of considerable interest dating back to the mid-sixteenth century, was built as a summer residence for the Rho family and is mainly characterised by three nuclei: the manor house, the pigsty and the stable.
The original layout of the farmhouse was and still is made up of two courtyards: one open towards the town, the second between the entrance building and the manor house. The structure was later expanded with the construction of various agricultural buildings that still reflect the typical appearance of the farmhouses of the lower Lombardy of the seventeenth century.
Manor house
The villa, with a rectangular plan, arranged on two levels in addition to the attic, reflects a baroque appearance with the central door and the entrance hall covered by a barrel vault and frescoed roundels with human figures. The medallions depict illustrious figures of the family and ancient Roman emperors.
The entrance body is characterized by an interesting monumental terracotta portal, while inside an important elliptical stone staircase branches off. The large room, on the ground floor, is instead covered by a characteristic umbrella vault.
In the western part of the villa the rooms have the ancient fifteenth-century structure of the vaults, while on the other side of the entrance hall the rooms are structurally different with wooden coffered ceilings.
Beyond the northern facade of the villa there is a small garden bordered by an exedra wall with baroque entrances.
Pigsty
The building, built towards the end of the 19th century, is internally divided into three naves, with the central part higher than the lateral ones.
A peculiar characteristic of this building is the upper opening on the main facade consisting of a rose window similar to that of cathedrals. A peculiarity of considerable prestige as it is difficult to find inside a farmhouse.
Stable
The first building in the courtyard adjacent to the main one is the stable: also divided into three naves and completed by a portico, at the time used as a tool shed. The building is on two levels: the ground floor for animal shelter and the first floor as a barn.
On the transverse rear facing the villa, a date is still legible, probably that of construction: 1884.
The villa with all its agricultural buildings (west wing and east wing) that surround it in the courtyard, as well as the stable and pigsty are to be renovated. Specifically, on the basis of an existing Implementation Plan, restoration and conservative redevelopment, restructuring and, for partial areas, total redevelopment with new construction are planned for the various buildings. The green areas and courtyards would maintain the same intended use with particular attention to a restoration of the--5148d983571605b390c5381506e52c30!
