Morbegno is located in the Lower Valtellina, squeezed to the north by the Rhaetian Alps and to the south by the Orobian Alps. It lies on the Bitto conoid, at the mouth of the Bitto Valley of Albaredo and the Bitto Valley of Gerola, extending to the other side of the valley, the Cech Coast. The Adda River divides the town from the hamlets of Campovico, Paniga and Desco. The historic centre is crossed by the Bitto stream, a tributary of the Adda River: which flows north of the town. In addition to several prominent architectural forms, the old town has interesting and characteristic corners with frescoed walls and metal railings dating back to the old local craftsmanship that grace the façades of many buildings.
