The Hacienda Los Apantles gets its unusual name from the pre-Hispanic word “apantles” which means, “little streams”. Beautiful, charming, streams run along this entire five-acre property adding to the uniqueness of this breathtaking estate which is bordered by the magical village of Malinalco, one of the sacred sites of the five hundred year old Aztec Empire.
Los Apantles is nestled in a beautiful wood setting within a small valley. The property is surrounded by the indigenous plants and trees that thrive in this combination of mountain and forest micro-climate.
A private, paved entry road leads to the grounds and four staff houses. The road is exquisitely defined by a variety of carefully selected cactus that resemble sculptures of sentinels. The cactus appear to guard a very extraordinary set stone which marks the entrance to the road leading from the main gate to the hacienda.
The five skylights in the 40 feet high ceiling of the Studio accentuate the marvelous design of this particularly extraordinary room in the house. It can be used as a fabulous gallery. Marco Aldaco, a well- known architect from Mexico City, famous for his vernacular style homes, worked closely with the present owners, a professional photographer and her husband. As a result, the interior of the house is characterized by clean lines, bright colors, and finished with the finest quality materials of wood and stone.
The incredible ceilings in the two Master Suites are 16-feet high. The spacious bedrooms include large wardrobes, closets and baths. Upstairs is a guest bedroom and full bathroom, plus another smaller room for guests. Each room in the house offers a one of a kind view to the village of Malinalco. The large glass windows throughout the house and the unusual glass ceiling which includes opening panels, give the whole interior a light, airy spacious feeling.
A vine-covered pergola leads to a comfortable outdoor terrace which provides shade for the pool. The terraces surrounding the house are a perfect place to sunbathe and to enjoy the spectacular 360-degree view of the sloping mountainside. The mountain peaks surrounding the valley are really a spectacular sight.
The impressive kitchen in the house features modern built-in appliances. The house includes two 250 cubic-meter cisterns, an electric generating plant, air conditioning, a water purification system, garden sprinklers and a space for a heliport. The Malinalco Golf Club is only 10 minutes away. It has its own medical clinic and gymnasium. There is a private airport in Toluca, the capital of the state of Mexico, which is a 40 minute drive from Hacienda Los Apantles. Mexico City is just another hour away.
