'From the top of the lighthouse of Montedor, built in 1910 with 22 meters of altitude, extends the parish of Carreco, between sea and hill, with its four picturesque places: Troviscoso, Carreco, Montedor and Paco.
Represented by the figures of the masseira, typical fishing vessel of Carreco, the windmills, unique with trapezoidal sails, which are classified as properties of public interest, the lighthouse of Montedor and the lyre, symbol of the culture of the parish, Carreco has about 2000 inhabitants and much more to show the world as the beach of Canto Marinho. In the wild and with a reduced infrastructure, this beach provides hiking lovers with an interpretive route, where it is possible to observe testimonies and memories of the last two million years of Earth's history. In the veiga of Carreco, vast fields of sunflowers shine that extend to a beautiful ecovia by the sea. Another of the wonders of the parish are the Roman salt pans and also the famous rock engravings, one of the largest sets of engravings in the Northwest Peninsula.
'Torn' by the National Road 13, Carreco is also served by a railway, which reached the parish in 1872, and its trails and paths are currently traveled by hundreds of pilgrims on the way to Santiago de Compostela. And to the astonishment of many it was in Eira do Amaro, property located on the face of the national road in the parish, that the first camps of what would become the Santoinho were held.
The traditions of Carreco have been preserved thanks to the work and commitment of the Regional Rancho of Lavradeiras de Carreco, Grupo Folclorico Dancas e Cantares de Carreco and Ronda Tipica de Carreco. The parish is also energized by the cultural and sports work of the Society of Instruction and Recreation and provides relevant support to the community through the Social and Parish Center.'
