Barcelona is the second largest city in Spain and capital of the Catalonia region. One of the most important cultural destinations in southern Europe, the city has a history dating back to the time of the Roman Empire thanks to its strategic position and port. The city is divided into 10 districts. The most prestigious are Eixample and Sarrià-Sant Gervasi. Unlike the city centre, the most popular homes here are modern, for example the contemporary penthouses with views over the city or magnificent villas with swimming pools and gardens. However there are also historical buildings and noble homes, especially in the areas of Tres Torres and Bonanova. Other high-level properties often sought-after by wealthy buyers are the apartments in Pedralbes or the panoramic penthouses overlooking the sea and the beach of Barcelona.
