Massarelos is dominated by the University of Porto, the Massarelos area has many cafes for students and the popular Mercado do Bom Sucesso, known for its gourmet cafes, wine bars and food stalls. Green spaces include the landscaped Crystal Palace Gardens, overlooking the Douro River, and the Botanical Garden, with formal gardens, greenhouses and an arboretum.
